Cherished For 40 Years And Counting.....
At the end of July in 1983, I declared vehemently that I was not interested in getting married, to the universe and whoever was listening! I had just found out that a couple that I loved was divorcing after over 30 years of marriage and I thought that I would hate to invest all those years in a relationship, only to have it crumble. I was better off single---or so I thought. Two weeks later, I went out to a singles club square dance preceded by a meal and tubing on the river with a friend, where I overheard a guy talking about how he needed his birth certificate to get his passport, so he could go TDY. I worked in the Bureau of Vital Statistics in Austin, so I asked him for his information and said I would check on the status of his birth certificate and try to expedite it. I also asked him to dance a tip with me at the square dance that evening and he said he would. I wish I could say that I remembered what song we danced to, but all I can remember of that tip is that when we started dancing, he was just another dance partner, but, by the time the tip was over, I was head over heels in love with him! We were married 13 months later and here we are, after 40 years and two kids and a grandson. It has been a journey, but one I would not have wanted to take with anyone else. That is why I chose to use our wedding rings for the Mono Monday challenge of "Someone Or Something You Cherish". Thanks to jen's photos for hosting.......
