Winter Preparations
A quick snapshot from the allotment today. I spent a few hours in the morning sunshine pruning the summer fruiting raspberries which I plan to dig up and thin out. I also put down more mulch on some of the beds. This year we don’t have our usual supply of horse manure so I’m experimenting using garden cuttings including these comfrey leaves.
In the background you can see some slug deterrents around the carrots. They are bottomless milk bottles with copper tape stuck around them, and copper meshing which I’ve circled around the plants. Both techniques have worked well on a range of young vegetables this year.
