Oxfam end of the day
It 5.30 and young M and I (mostly her) have brought up all the rubbish to go outside, a regular Wednesday job. Except usually there’s maybe 3 or 4 clear bags (mixed recycling) and 1 or 2 red bags (landfill). But Oxfam has lost its contract with the company who took and sorted all the unwanted donations (sadly way over 50% of what’s given) and things that haven’t sold. I think waste processing is a pretty tricky area altogether. Anyway we don’t have one now so all this stuff in red bags is now going to landfill. Terrible. Maybe 25 or so bags - just since Monday when the change happened. Al least this isn’t happening to unsold books - which still go to a company that sells most, and presumably has to pulp some - I wonder what they become - toilet rolls? Or egg boxes?
