A Night Out..

On a rather dreary day, came an unexpected invitation to accompany a friend to a presentation at our local art gallery! What? Me? Going Out? At Night? Like a Normal Person? Geez..let me think about that one! ...for about a minute....Let me grab my coat! 

What a treat...This wasn't the ballet or the opera or the theatre ..It was just a small gathering of film buffs attending an evening of delving into the works of Stanley Kubrick, but for me, it was exciting just to get out of the house! And it was fun. 

There were two presenters..one who talked about the different films Kubrick directed and discussed the type of camera shots and techniques for which he was famous. The other, the curator for the art gallery, had a rather unique presentation about the art work on the walls of the hotel in his favourite Kubrick film,The Shining.... Say what? Really? I am not kidding. He  had made it a challenge for himself to track down and identify each painting, even ones that showed only a corner of themselves to the camera on a passing tracking shot? Why? I do not know, but funny enough, it WAS interesting...Most were by Canadian artists..some works recognizable, others more obscure..but part of the fun was seeing how passionate this man was about that film!  Oh yes, and about Canadian artists! But then, after all, he is an art gallery curator.

I came home really energized and determined to make more of an effort to get out and about....
