The Blanket Chest. Lumix M4/3 20mm

Today, I found a last blank piece of wall space against which to photograph the Blanket Chest, now complete apart from an internal partition.  It took about a year to reach this point.  I employed many new - to me - techniques of joinery. But the biggest challenge after deciding to use reproductions of 19th century Japanese woodcuts for the panels, was to derive the technique to adhere them to the panels securely, and then seal them with clear archival varnish.  Here is a link to my Blip describing the process in more detail.  The prints are the work of Kunisada Utagawa, 1786-1865.  I'll include his fascinating biography here.
The photography was a challenge too.  I used two photo floods to get the light fairly even.  But I wanted to show the side panels and top, since, in the spot where the chest will stand, the sides will not be visible.  It's a shame, but that's the downside of a small condo in the city.  The best angle was at close quarters which necessitated using wide angle lenses.  Some distortion of the perspective is inevitable.
The Extras allow a view of the walnut frame-and-panel lid which slides off towards the front, and also the left side panels.
