Admiral Fallow : Retirement Version
Wait what? Admiral Fallow again? What what? Retirement?
I've hinted it for a few weeks now, Mrs C retired mid-November and today was my last day. We'd been mulling it over for a year and as this date got closer, we persuaded ourselves to go for it. I have been in full time employment probably for 40 years, initially starting in WH Smith in Princes Street (computer games section for Christmas) and 5 jobs since then, all in IT.
Deciding to retire has been difficult for me but the more I considered continuing to work, the more I swayed towards retirement and I don’t want to look back and wish I had retired earlier. It’s quite daunting, financially and lifestyle wise, as of yet I’ve not felt excited about it but I expect that to gradually change as we get settled into a routine and mindset. I am sure Arlo will feel over the moon about it, no more walks squeezed into lunchtimes and after work. And blips, yes, there's going to be far more variation right?
So yes, back to the plot, Mrs C got me tickets for my birthday to see AF last night and I suggested we also get tickets for tonight in Edinburgh at La Belle Angele to celebrate my retirement - we've never seen a band/support doing the same sets 2 night running. So of course Zoe Graham was on first but now we were familiar with her songs now, which helps, and we enjoyed her even more. She's really confident and her banter/performance is great - we'd go see her again.
Admiral Fallow next and despite all the same songs in the sets, it was just brilliant. The venue was sold out this time, atmosphere great, 2 pints of IPA, possible suppressed retirement emotions and beautiful music, I say again, brilliant, my favourite AF gig. We joked last night coming home that I could go see all their gigs, Mrs C said that's entirely possible, they only play 4 or 5 times a year! So let's do it, tickets for March booked! Gotta keep busy now, right where’s my pipe and slippers?
