Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2024 Saturday — Recap of a Day Plus

Mr. Fun & I have had an enjoyable day with our daughter Deidre (Dede). She spotted an “Open House” up the street from us. A house that we have wanted to see, so the three of us walked there to lookey-lou. Then we drove to Morro Bay because we were given a “Rock Solid” vibrating board, and we needed to go get it, and then a short drive to the harbor to walk with our pups, and back at our house, we watched the colors of the sunset as we prepared dinner.

Saying "Goodbye" to November is like saying "Goodbye" to a favorite friend who I know I won't see for a very long time. I can hardly believe this is the final day of November; my favorite month. Tonight the world pulls the shade down and will lift it in the morning to an entirely new holiday season. The colors, the tempo, and the mood will change. Pumpkins, gourds, chrysanthemums, and all of autumn will be moved to the clearance aisle. Poinsettia red, forest green, shiny gold, twinkly everything will turn our thoughts to morsels of sweetness and sips of nostalgia. If we’re cautious and careful in the twelfth month then we’ll remember not to rush, but to reflect, to breathe deep, to linger at the Baby Jesus' manger rather than launch into the marketplace. If we give serious thought to making meaning from the mess Madison Avenue hands us, we might place the "Elf on the Shelf" in the Bethlehem stable and talk with our family about the significance of the animals, the lamb; or place the elf with the Wise Men to discuss the star and what they knew about the baby, or place the elf looking into the manger, maybe kneeling beside it and discuss why the elf would kneel. Then each one in our family could be gaining a biblical worldview while playing the elf game. But now I'm dabbling in December, and November is ticking away. Saving the best for last, Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas, is definitely true on our calender of twelve months.
