Winter Moth
Mish pointed this moth out to me on the outside of a patio door. Nice to photograph an insect for a change. I think it is a winter moth. This is one of the few moth species active in winter. They can cope with freezing temperatures. The females are virtually wingless. When their eggs hatch in the spring the caterpillars are an important source of food for blue tits and great tits.
