Unearthed: Soil
Freda came from Sunderland today. There is a direct train to and from Sunderland, so that works well for us.
I took her to The Sill. We had a coffee and a chat, then visited this exhibition about soil. It was fascinating. A local farmer has changed his practices and cut his bills dramatically with natural fertilisers.
There are more living beings in one teaspoon of healthy soil than there are people in the world: restoring this diversity is the secret to a resilient future for farming

I then drove to Hallbankgate, a tiny community just into Cumbria? They have a community café and shop where we had a soup and scone lunch. The atmosphere there is lovely. It’s a shame it is so far, or I would go to support them.
We came home for another hot drink. Then I took Freda to the train and went to see Margret. Mark was still here and took me out for an Italian meal. There was plenty to talk about.
The washing rota has been taken on by Anna, so that is a help.
