St Mary Magdalene's Church
After breakfast, there was a bit of Saturday-kitchen watching before we went to Battlefield 1403, a farm shop, deli and cafe (co-located with a museum celebrating the Battle of Shrewsbury) on the Albrighton Estate.
First, we walked across the fields to St Mary Magdalene's Church, built on the site of (and commemorates) the 1403 Battle of Shrewsbury (hence the cafe's name). Just after Remembrance Day, there were poppies and dedications to be seen, although, given the church's location, I expected more.
We read materials in the church for a while before returning to the cafe. The rain had arrived, and the walk back was considerably boggier underfoot, although not more than a few minutes. The weather also meant the cafe was packed, and the only sheltered seating we could find was in the unheated woodshed. I think Mum and PY were a bit cold sitting there, but I didn't feel it. We ordered some lunch. The chestnut mushrooms & garlic with crispy serrano ham & rocket pesto were delicious and well worth sitting in a shed for.
