Living my dream

By Mima

Maeshowe... or Stonehenge...

... or Mima's truck?

Take your pick.

For about six weeks in summer the sun shines through the truck door, sending a slot of shadows across onto Pink (see extra) and warming me as I sit at the table writing my diary and enjoying the first coffee of the day.

Of course this delightful start to the day depends on clear skies and warm air, which aren't always guaranteed in early December. We are fortunate to have both at the moment.

Bean loves having the door open and the sun shining onto her so early in the day: her idea of heaven as she settles into her post-breakfast sleep.

I have planted 28 trees and toetoes (native grasses not unlike pampas) into the Bunny Lawn today. Thankfully it has been cooler (25C max) and while I'm pretty pooped, I'm not on my knees. This means that the lawn is covered in natives about 1m apart, which should grow into a dense cover and eventually prevent me needing to line-trim there. Hopefully by 2028...

I must now commit myself to watering them consistently and frequently to get them through until the cooler wetter weather returns in late autumn.

Bean and I have both celebrated the cooler conditions with a good long walk. Before knocking off for the day I shall plant out the cucumbers in the tunnel house, feed the strawberry plants and do a spot of path-clearing with the line-trimmer.

I hope Blippers in California haven't been too rattled by the earthquake. The Ring of Fire bursts into life again...
