A dragon
A wonderful morning wander through the bones and structure of old London with @HClaireB . We spent most time in the Guildhall, looking at their paintings and the Anne Desmet wood engravings assembled into collage; it has preserved the Roman forum under the great courtyard as well as some of the drains and walls still surviving. The epitome of a very long lived in place, where there was prosperity and care to maintain and make available the remains of the old structure for those to come after. The Guildhall has a very substantial image archive, which they are making available .. many hours of absorption there.
The dragon is on the outside of the Smithfield meat market, which seems likely to be closed. In extra, the corner of the Barbican opposite The Jugged Hare .. the rain went off as we started walking, and it was mild, 13C.
After lunch I went on through the back streets to Bloomsbury; had intended to go into the British Museum, but had no patience for being part of long queues. Had cheese from the Fromagerie en route - that seems like a good place. Passed a blue plaque for Dorothy L Sayers.
