First crop
Another fine day beckoned. We wondered about a cycle, then discovered a flat tyre. On our journey home from holiday, we had stopped for a break to discover the front wheel of one of the bikes was flat and had been turned at right angles in the carrier, which explained why the fuel consumption was a good deal lower. The tyre had seemed fine when we had set off and a puncture seemed unlikely. So, we had pumped it up on our return and left it for a few days. Now, again flat, a puncture was identified and a thorn extracted from the tyre as the culprit. It must have been picked up going round Rutland Water and we were lucky to have got back to the hotel without having to repair it. So, once again the tube of adhesive we had acquired in Norfolk proved useful.
This afternoon, we decided to check out the seed potatoes planted back in April. They are now exactly 11 weeks old and flowering. The instructions indicate they should be ready to lift any time after 10 weeks. The ground was still a bit moist in spite of the recent dry, hot weather, but they quickly dried off in the sun. There's nothing quite like growing your own and getting the first crop as a reward for all the toil and effort - even though the elements do all the really creative work!
