Tiramisu.1

Today I walked Django, and then went into work, where we were to have a seminar from the grand old man of Chinese optimization, Yinyu Ye. When I arrived, PhD student Y was walking with him and a couple of our colleagues to the cafe. Despite the misgivings of (Italian) developer F about making tiramisu with cream (rather than just mascarpone), Y had made a batch and brought it in. We shared it, and it was quite good.

The seminar room was packed, as Yinyu gave us a talk that wasn't the best in terms of preparation, but contained a whole string of interesting ideas. He's had a remarkable career, escaping the rice fields of the cultural revolution due to his ability as a basketball player, he moved from the company that recruited him as a player, to graduating in Systems and Control at 34, and then going to Stanford to do a PhD under the supervision of father of our field. He's been based there ever since.
