Sweet singing in the choir

Mum, aged 92, gets a lot of enjoyment from the choir who are also a choral society and this evening they did a lovely concert of Christmas songs and carols in the village church.  The poetry society in the village chose the Christmas poems and some good singers sang solos songs as variable as Tom Lehrer’s Christmas carol which is the one song that’s banging around in my brain this morning (‘Christmas time is here by golly, deck the hall with hunks of holly’).  Being an English village full of middle classes of a certain age (ooh topical) who were encouraged to bring their own refreshments every pew had a bottle of wine and picnic glasses.  Encouraged by the choir master who told us it was a secular occasion.  Jono and Sue and friends came too but they had to bolt for a dinner so I took Mum home as the wind that will become Storm Darragh tomorrow started blowing.

Home around 10 and was glad I’d made some rather good soup yesterday.

In the day we went over to Chichester for lunch with Lizzie M, a writer and her husband Mike. I have only seen Lizzie on zoom for the last few years so it was good to meet up.  They’ve moved to Felpham.
