Carols, and Princes, at Royal Holloway

My wife and I went to a service of Lessons and Carols at Royal Holloway Chapel this evening. There was wonderful singing from the Founders Choir and, despite the stormy weather outside, it was a calm and reflective start to the lead-up to Christmas. As the main photo shows, the Chapel is a beautiful building in regular use as a place of worship. The University Chaplain took the service and he didn't look much older than the students in the choir. There was mulled wine and mince pies in the Picture Gallery after the service and the extra is a painting of the Princes in the Tower of London by the celebrated Pre-Raphaelite artist, John Everett Millais. Unfortunately I couldn't avoid the reflection from the ceiling lights bur the effect is to give the Princes a kind of halo. Richard lll would not be impressed! The Picture Gallery has paintings mostly by British artists that date from the mid to late 19th century. They did have a Turner but I believe it was sold to relieve some of the financial pressures on the University.
