Living my dream

Heat-defeat

The mobile BBQ from Christchurch was parked outside Ngapara Rugby Rooms this morning. There must have been a party there last night.

The Rugby Rooms have a bar and big seating area which is regularly hired out for events. You probably wouldn't want a wedding there (although who knows?) but it's perfect for celebrations where you can spill out of the doors onto the veranda and the pitch. And it is far enough from the village proper that most gatherings pass completely unnoticed by any residents.

The BBQ is towed behind a ute and I have come across it at several events, including a birthday party, a bull sale and at an A&P Show. It always draws a crowd, both for it's amazing construction and for the excellent food.

The morning was deliciously cool and wet, during which time I did a few indoor things, but generally had a relaxed few hours. Then the northerly wind arrived as forecast after lunch and we are back to sweltering again.

There were a couple of hours when it was dry and not too hot, when I ran around like an idiot doing outdoor tasks. Then I admitted heat defeat, changed into skimpy clothes and once again I am indoors.

Bean did likewise: she had a mad two hours racing around the garden and 'helping' me pick broad beans (you know, the magic jumping ones...). Now she too has collapsed in the relative coolth of the truck.

Once the beans are podded I am going to treat myself to a snooze in the breeze on the windowseat.
