Monet in London

We were lucky enough to get some tickets for the Monet show at the Courtauld Gallery in London so, in spite of the awful weather, we set off on the train this morning. They’d cancelled the train we had intended to get but the one before and the one after were running so we decided to get the earlier train and have breakfast once we arrived. The journey was fine, we got a bus to near the gallery and then walked around looking for a nice breakfast spot. The wind and rain were horrible, and my feet were a little wet by the time we found somewhere but I soon dried out.

The exhibition was very good although smaller than I’d imagined, but we also looked at the Courtauld’s permanent collection which was also very good.

Out into the rain again, to get to our lunch spot where we were meeting Adam and Tomoko who have just got back from their holiday in Japan. Lots of catching up and some presents passed over for us to carry home, and then we said our goodbyes and set off for home. The journey back was fine apart from a slight hiccup when they held our train at a station as there was congestion ahead due to problems caused by the weather further down the line towards the south coast. But luckily that was only for a few minutes and then they said they were going to move on a bit and hold the train again at a later station, which luckily for us was our station! So we were only a few minutes later than scheduled. A tiring day (especially as the wind had kept us awake the night before) but worth it.
