At the circus
I'm feeling quite a bit better, but S has reached peak cold. So I ended up going to the circus on my own this afternoon; it seemed a shame to waste both tickets. It's part of the annual circus festival, which we always enjoy, and was in a big top in a field. It's still very windy, so like everyone else I was glad I'd wrapped up well -- it was chilly in there, even when it was crammed full of people. No photos allowed, so you get a snatched photo of the big top as people were leaving.
The show was Les Dodos, by Le P'tit Cirk. It involved five acrobats and about 60 guitars. They started out by standing the guitars up, and balancing on them.. Later they balanced on stacks of guitars, did somersaults and threw each other through an archway built out of guitars, threw guitars at each other, and at one point one of them balanced a double bass upright on his chin. They also danced and played the instruments. And the grand finale was some dramatic trapeze work (combined with guitar throwing) which had the audience gasping.
Acrobatic shows normally last an hour at the outside, but they kept going for an hour and a half, courtesy of the musical interludes which gave them a chance to catch their breath. It was excellent; the entire audience, adults and children alike, gave them a standing ovation at the end. Here's a video taster. And another one, with interviews.
I'm glad I went, well worth the trip, but I was also glad to get home and take the chill off in front of the fire!
