The Dancing Christmas Tree
I've looked everywhere for the tree top star and it seems to be gone. I thought very briefly about making one, but decided I couldn't face it, so we headed out to Montgomery Village to see if we could do a little Christmas shopping and hunt for a new star for the tree. There was once a time when every business in town, no matter what they sold most of the year, had some Christmas tree ornaments. That doesn't seem to be the case anymore. We couldn't find any. We also struck out on Will's birthday present (his birthday is the 17th) . I knew exactly what I wanted to get him and didn't think it would be a problem but wound up coming home and ordering his present and the tree top ornament online. At least I managed to avoid replacing our humble 60 year old wooden star with one without flashing lights and a remote control...or glitter.
Today's offering is what we call the dancing Christmas tree, a work of art Will made when he was in pre-school. The construction paper on which the painted aluminum bits are mounted is faded and worn but I love it and it wouldn't be Christmas without it taped to our refrigerator.
Our neighbor Cindy came by to bring us the owners' manual that goes with the dishwasher we got from her, and we chatted about kitchen appliances, how cold it is in the morning, family Christmas plans and the state of the insurance industry. Hazel the basset hound did her best, as usual, to get Spike to play with her but he just doesn't get it.
I'm behind again, but I imagine a lot of others are too at this time of year and I will catch up eventually....
