Skittles

It was the Friends of Clennon Lakes Christmas Party and we celebrated in the traditional Devon way with a skittles and curry night at the Old Manor Inn Paignton. This ancient thatched pub has an adjacent skittles alley. For most of us it was a novelty but there were some semi professionals long versed in this West Country pastime who knew exactly how to play, and the pins were flying. In the photo Jacqui is demonstrating the refined but effective Cheshire style which almost won the contest. Great curry too. We were better at the Guess the Dartmoor Tors picture quiz and won a Stollen. Taken at this very spot I have a team photograph of Preston Manor Football Club receiving the Sunday League Fair Play Award in 1974. 50 years ago. It was the 1970s so we look a very scruffy bunch, - me in particular.
