Man At Work, Doing Something That Looks Dangerous
The folks next door are changing out their electrical meters, which involves a lot of bare wire and tools that are strewn all over their driveway. I have a birdseye view from my table. The guys from the power company appeared bright and early to do something on the roof to the main line from the street; I assume they were disabling the feed, given the fact that the three people on the ground were going to be messing with the wires for the rest of the day, but that is conjecture on my part. I didn’t pepper anyone with my usual assortment of questions since they all looked a bit preoccupied. It is now nighttime and quite dark. Their house doesnt appear to have power. They are still out there working, with flashlights, which doesn’t seem very safe to me given the consequences. And I am here in the light with stories to make up, and really hoping that they know what they’re doing out there.
I am also babysitting my sluggish panettone dough. It was supposed to have risen enough for baking by about four this afternoon, but no such luck. The environment is just too cold. Mr S found an article that recommends a much higher rising temp. Next time I will make sure to create a space that is around 85 degrees, which is NOT how I would describe “room temperature.” I think I will be up pretty late waiting for a good rise. I’ve heated up the empty oven a bit, turned off the heat, added a pot of hot water to radiate more warmth, and put the loaves in there. It’s working, slowly. After all the work to get it this far I’m not going to abandon this project just because I want to go to sleep. Maybe I’ll knit or read for a bit til the dough has risen “within an inch of the top of the pan.” And then it has to bake for a good hour.
