Cultural Life
We’re a gang of old university friends linked with a school friend who are all great friends in Winchester. Once or twice a year we go to the theatre together. Today we went to see the extraordinary Robert Icke update of Oedipus with The Actor Mark Strong in the lead (old joke). We posed outside before Vik arrived to join us.
Back to the Ivy Club for lunch beforehand, they put us in the little dining room which was fun and festive. After the play (two hours no interval) we went to the National Portrait Gallery for tea.
The others peeled off and I went back to the Ivy Club to meet Christian for a drink. Walked pack to the tube listening to three young women in red velvet dresses singing carols a cappella but miked at the top of Great Newport St. It was rather lovely coming down the road and hearing a beautifully sung version of Away in a Manger. See extra.
The train home was DEATH. Delayed, packed, I was squished into a corner surrounded by, quite cheerful people singing festive songs in iphone Karaoke. For an hour. That was less lovely.
The train skipped Woking and then sat outside Guildford for a platform that was being held by a steam train. After it half emptied out I took my sore feet to sit for the last 30 mins only to find that the subsequent, and I suspect half empty train was ten minutes behind.
