ABSTRACT THURSDAY - NOT QUITE ON THEME!
Mr HCB was a bit upset that our dental appointments for yesterday were postponed because he is having trouble with one of his teeth and has been in a lot of pain. He’s been taking paracetamol and when the receptionist rang to postpone the appointment, although she has managed to get us in for next Thursday, he also has an emergency appointment at 8:20 on Monday morning - followed by an appointment with his GP for the interpretation of his recent echocardiogram - so that will be another busy day!
I must admit he looked pretty rough when we got up this morning, said he hadn’t slept very much and his face was quite swollen. As I knew I would be out for some time at the Community Fridge, I decided to ring our Dentist and ask for advice.
The receptionist, who is also a Dental Nurse, was very kind and said that she would contact the dentist and get back to me. She then rang back to ask if we could pop in to pick up a prescription for some antibiotics, which we did. We were soon on our way home having stopped at a pharmacy just up the road to collect the said antibiotics.
Having been assured that he would be all right if I went to the Community Fridge, I left Mr HCB with strict instructions to take the paracetamol every four hours and to keep warm.
When I rang Mr HCB about an hour later, he said that he had felt quite cold so had even been under my electric throw so I knew he must be feeling poorly - which is most unlike him! However, when I got home just after 3 o’clock, he said he felt better, so I’ve told him I will make some nice warming soup for our evening meal.
I decided not to do more pictures of fruit and produce from the Community Fridge today but instead thought I would take part in the AT challenge.
Today’s photograph, my first one for Abstract Thursday for quite some time isn’t quite on theme of “Transparent Abstract” - I told you it wouldn’t last - but I think you will agree it is an abstract.
A few weeks ago, on the 4th October to be precise, we attended a service to celebrate the life of a friend‘s mother. Kathleen was a prolific artist and I remember when her daughter told us she had to stop driving, which meant she could no longer go to her art classes, how upset she was.
The last few months of her life - and Kathleen was well into her 90s when she died - were spent in a Care Home, as she was no longer able to look after herself, as she was suffering from dementia.
At the Wake after the service, there were lots of Kathleen’s paintings and we were invited to take one or two. I rather liked this one, and of course with any sort of abstract, you can put your own interpretation on what you think it is. There is nothing on the back of the painting that gives a clue to what it might be but I just liked the vibrant colours and thought it would brighten up a dull corner of our hall, which it certainly does.
I’m sure Kathleen, and her daughter, Marie , would be happy to know that we enjoy seeing this painting each day - so “Thank you” to them both for this gift. We do have another one, but that will probably be another AT shot!
It has been a dull and dismal day and we didn’t have quite so many at the Community Fridge, but those who came had the pick of some decent produce and fridge and freezer goodies too. Next week is our last week for two weeks, as we are closed over Christmas and New Year. I have put in an extra and you will see Dianne and Meg, two of our volunteers, showing off their Christmas trousers, hats and glasses - the person in the middle said he wouldn’t give his permission to be in my Blip, so I have obliterated his head, so you will have to guess whether or not he was/is handsome. Mind you, he was cheeky to me a couple of times, and wasn’t wearing anything Christmassy, so he doesn’t really deserve his 15 minutes of fame on Blip!!
