Fossil

I travelled up to Arnside today to meet eight other retirees who I used to work with - they all retired from the city council a long time before me. We had arranged to meet at JJ Crossfields.

P, who now lives in Silverdale, was leading our walk, which was a 6 or so miles stroll along the estuary, then to Arnside Tower and the Knott before returning to Arnside and (in my case) a cup of tea and a tea cake. Interestingly others had connections with the area. M has a second home on the edge of Arnside and is moving there full time. N had relatives across the area, and his parents ashes were scattered years ago under a bramble bush we passed. He also has a small orchard on the edge of Arnside. D met his wife fifty plus years ago on a school trip to Heversedge. T and K moved 4 months ago to Kendal. And my caravan is only 3 miles from our walking route. I tell people that many bypass this area as they head to the Lakes, but that’s not the case with this group.

Just before we stopped on a pebbly beach for lunch we came across a rocky area with fossils clearly showing. This one may be a small trilobite, or a very large woodlouse like creature.

I took quite a few photos, including on a few occasions of the group. They are obviously not in the habit of taking photos, something I now take for granted. The day itself was mild, with no breeze, the waters of the estuary as still as a mill pond. The bay, as so often, looked fabulous (extra).
