Hat-trick
Bean found three young rabbits hiding behind a blade of grass on our walk today. They leapt up and were off, with Bean hot on their little fluffy tails.
Never fear, she caught up with two (who decided to escape together) and hadn't a clue what to do next, so she looked in my direction (60m away) gave a metaphorical shrug and followed her nose at top speed all the way back to where they had been lurking so ineffectively in the grass.
There she ran around in circles for a little while, on the off-chance that there was a fourth bunny. Eventually she decided 'probably not' and came to sit in front of me where I had been resting on the track watching all the excitement unfold.
Our next stop was the creek where Bean drank her fill. Then we wended our way home, both happy with the eventful walk.
The day started with the excellent sight (for me) of two dead possums beneath the trap. In the last week possums have started to nibble the brassicas, and have been vocal in the dead of night (ugh), so I relocated and re-lured the GoodNature trap yesterday. Bingo! There may yet be more, so I will keep it primed for the next few nights at least.
I have made a batch of small feta cheeses which will be mid-summer gifts for friends.
While making mayo first thing my electric whisk went bang in spectacular style in my hand. So I found myself making the slowest ever batch of mayo using a hand whisk powered by me. I'm sure it was character-forming, or something.
I picked the final broad beans and will have them for supper: steamed and served with butter. Yum.
Those plants will go onto the compost tomorrow and I will turn their bed into the pot luck surprise bed using the latest pile of out of date seeds.
Other than that I've been watering, weeding, and I even found time to watch this interview with Nate Hagens. I bang on about Nate from time to time, and the interview is a great introduction to his work, his extraordinary brain, his humanity - for those of you who might be interested.
