Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

JR went off to the gym. I put on the Christmas piano playlist and did some jobs - washing, ironing, hoovering etc.

Then Archie and I walked across the Meadows. My destination was the Grassmarket - haven’t been there for ages. When we got to Mary’s Milk Bar we went in because
a) there wasn’t a queue
b) I needed a sit down
c) I’m always ready for an ice cream.

It then got very busy, and there was a long queue when I came out. These rather amazing shoes caught my eye. (Extra)

We climbed up the Vennel steps, and I’ve never seen so many people trying to take selfies and photos. I’m sure I spoiled several photos as I staggered up the steps, hanging on to the hand rail, stopping quite a lot, pretending to look back at the view.

Then in the afternoon I needed some Christmas wrapping paper. We had none! I wanted the colourful, tacky stuff. So I took the bus down to the shop, and would you know it - my bus was just there when I came out, so I was gone about half an hour. Well, I would have been, had I not met a friend and stopped for a yak.

JR was busy cooking up a storm, but not for tea tonight - for the freezer ‘just in case’.

I wanted to get a photo of one of Archie’s favourite shops - the chippie. The owner really goes to town with decorations, but I’d left it too late, too much contrast between the inside lights and the darkness outside. So this is just a wee corner of the whole display. I think the reindeer was meant to be lit up.

I’ve done over 10,000 steps today! Haven’t done that in a long time. I’m stuffed!!

I had a coughing fit last night, and the barking sealion impersonation made a return visit!
