Strichen Station

Strichen was the only intermediate station on the Maud to Fraserburgh section of the Formartine and Buchan Railway to serve a town and was one of the busiest stations. Writing in 1888 - just 23 years after the arrival  of the railway, Mrs  C.J Thomson reflected on the mixed blessing of the railway. On market days it brought countryfolk to the town before noon which was to the benefit of stall holders - and it took them away in mid afternoon by 4pm ' so that scenes of grunkness are a thing of the past'. However it also enabled goods made cheaply outwith  the town to be brought in easily and the embankment cut off the view along the valley of the River Ugie.
Note the survival of one of the original station lamps on the platform.
