Sunlight and shadows

An hour before our 3.21 sunset cloud broke, the rain stopped, the gloom of the day was suddenly dispelled.
I was attracted by the way the low sun lit up and  cast dappled shadows from the nearby trees on the town's War Memorial.

The memorial was unveiled in 1923 - the rather pretentious bronze statue depicts a female figure representing Justice protecting a much smaller helmeted warrior who  represents valour.
I much prefer the simple dignity of the granite crosses or kilted soldiers favoured by the surrounding villages.
