Hibs
After giving Django a long around much of the Estate (see extra) I went into Edinburgh. I called in for a chat with daughter K, and then went to Easter Road to watch (bottom-of-the-table) Hibs play Ross County. I'd not been to a match there for just over a year, and I was interested to see that the ultras have moved to a different area of the ground (see extra). I thought that the upside-down banner was a protest against the team's poor form, but maybe that's too imaginative!
Just before kick-off, a guy sat next to me and immediately greeted me by name. I'd taught him two courses in 2015-16, so he was understanding when I said that I didn't recognise him. Romanian, he works in Edinburgh and has a season ticket. When Ross County scored after 3 minutes, I feared another Hibs defeat, and my neighbour observed that he'd not yet seen them win this season. However, Hibs gradually came back into the game and equalised just before half time. Two minutes after missing a penalty in the second half, Hibs were awarded another and scored. A third late goal settled the nerves, and there was a feel-good atmosphere as everyone left the ground.
I then walked across the city to Polwarth, taking in the festivities in Princes Street gardens. There was a good atmosphere and, shortly after taking this, a couple asked me to take a photo of them. The party was less than exciting, as the room partitioned into French women and their British male partners.
I'm catching up on Blipfoto, but now must watch highlights of today's Manchester derby: GGMU!
