The Case Of The Harbour Buoy & The Rum Drum
Today dawned brightly with clear skies but just as bitingly cold as yesterday and as the forecast was for the sun to shine of course it had to be time for another coastal winter trip, with the destination on this occasion being Whitstable.
Once we arrived we headed straight to the seafront to be met with such a ferocious and startlingly cold wind that it almost took your breath away. We were going to make our way out along the more exposed part of the beach towards The Old Neptune pub but with the wind being so strong we decided to make our way to the relative shelter of the harbour, which is where I captured my two images.
My main image was taken looking across the harbour as I really liked the position of the various elements and the colours - from the red and white lifebuoy casing in the foreground, to the blue fishing boat in the middle distance and the yellow plant machinery on the opposite shoreline.
My extra was taken when I crouched down beside the wooden cask - I've used drum in my title purely because it rhymes with the name of seafarers' supposedly favourite tipple painted on its side - and I could see the fishermen making preparations to head out to sea.
By the time we had completed our stroll along the harbour we were feeling distinctly windblown and definitely in need of feeding and watering. We contemplated several options but settled upon the recently refurbished Duke Of Northumberland, which turned out to be a great choice. It had a lovely atmosphere as the sun streamed in through the windows and we chose and devoured some delicious small plates washed down with one of the best pints of Spitfire lager we've ever had.
Suitably fortified we ventured back outside to walk along the shoreline in the opposite direction to our initial stroll this time passing the oyster beds and the sea wall and whilst the strong wind was still making its assertive presence very much felt it was now at our backs and the sun was in our faces so we didn't feel quite as windswept as before.
I did take several other images which I would like to have included on this entry but sadly when I got back I realised I had run out of extras. Therefore, me and my brother (BRIANW) have set up a new joint journal under the name of PhotoSafaris (or to give it its full title BeerHunters by PhotoSafaris - if you've encountered either of our individual journals you will know why!) where you can see some of the extras that we couldn't find space for on our separate journals.
