Gene Genie Ramble
Gene Hunt: Cobblers! The public don't care what we do, just that we get the job done! (Life on Mars 2:1)
Other than walking the dog (when it was already almost dark at 4pm -_-) I was at home today. Bro came for dinner and stayed all evening joining me in watching (again) the last three episodes of Life on Mars - and talking about how the script writers captured the attitudes of the seventies mostly by using the outrageous Gene Hunt as a mouthpiece for the way we were with his constant slurs against everyone except the alpha male - and yet still managing to be likeable - cos he's not a bad guy - just a product of his time and situation, doing the best that he can in the only way he knows how. Very clever writing and brilliantly played by Philip Glenister. Watching the action in well created sets, thinking about how much fun the production team must have had in 2006-7 when tracking down and creating props and costumes for this 1973 period drama - history for many, yesterday's memories for us - the cars, home decor, Black Forest gateaux, shimmering eyeshadow, sideburns, the tank tops - and of course 'top of the pops' long forgotten songs in the background .....
Gene Hunt: I think you've forgotten who you're talking to.
Sam Tyler: An overweight, over-the-hill, nicotine-stained, borderline-alcoholic homophobe with a superiority complex and an unhealthy obsession with male bonding?
Gene Hunt: You make that sound like a bad thing.
Life on Mars Series 1: 8 (2006)
Note: oops, you can always tell when I'm bored with nowt to say about my day.....
