Green House on a Green HIll
It happens to be set on a hill, green now because of all the rain, above Los Alamos Rd, and clearly visible from the back rooms of our house. The old house was barely visible behind lots of bushes but they all burned down along with the house.. This far more fire resistant one has taken its place. I think this picture, taken from our bedroom deck, is of the back side of the house. The walls are some sort of cement cladding and I love the standing seam metal roof. The color is a bit controversial...not to everyone's taste, (John calls it the 'pea green' house) but I quite like it. They have a modest string of lights along the roofline for the Christmas season.
The blue sky is with us for another day and then the rain is due back for most of next week. It looks like the Spike Walk is going to be off limits for awhile because of John's knee. He seems to be headed in the same direction I was. I can't tell if he's being stoic and his knee hurts more than he's letting on, or if he's making a bigger deal of it because he's not used to having problems with his knees. I know that doesn't make a lot of sense but that's the way things are around here these days....We did take Spike to the field and threw the red ball for him.
I checked to make sure I had signed up for the right class before I went this morning . It was a good class, but nobody seemed to be feeling particularly 'Christmassy'. Hard to believe that it is just a week until The Day. There was a time when I would have arrived with presents for the teachers, but that ship has sailed without me this year....
We are hosting the coffee group Christmas party on Friday evening and I'm looking forward to it. I'm making posole (Spanish for hominy but actually a traditional soup made from slow cooked pork shoulder with hominy) and the others will bring the rest.I managed to find crackers (the British party favor kind, not the American edible kind) and the tree looks like it's going to hold up well despite having been up for awhile. I'm not so sure about the poinsettia....
