Communication?
Or total lack of same?
In the morning I went into Wexford for the sewing group, and then on to lunch with the same group. But I found it difficult to fully relax because we were expecting Circet to come and install our fibre broadband, and whilst W was home and happy to hold the fort, it was ordered in my name, and he might have needed to contact me to discuss stuff.
In the event, the engineer from Circet didn't turn up till long after I'd got home. And then couldn't do the job. He ran into a number of snags, most of which could have been foreseen.
The fibre cable is rolled up on the telegraph pole, which is on the opposite side of the road to our house. There is a pole on our side, but it's wobbly - not safe to lean a ladder against it, and he didn't have a hoist.
The telephone line (which we don't use) comes to our house from that pole underground, in a duct. But the duct clearly has at least one "join" because it's different at each end. And the end by the pole is too narrow to pull a second cable through. All these snags could have been discovered by a 15 minute (or less) visit from an engineer in advance.
So now, they'll have to come back in January, appropriately kitted out with a hoist (or maybe even get a new pole erected?), and equipment to dig a trench up our garden (with the distinct risk they damage Husky's wires, as we did only a few weeks ago planting bulbs) and across to our house to lay a new duct!
It's highly frustrating because I tried in advance to discuss/discover exactly what they planned to do, and convey to them that it might not be a simple job, and was reassured by their call centre that the engineer would discuss everything and sort it all out when he arrived.
