(354) Can Park There, Mate
I had cause to find a parking space in Kirkcaldy town centre today. My usual first choice is no longer available on account of the shopping centre and car park having been demolished last year (video evidence is here) so I opted for the multi-story carpark just off the prom. I haven't parked here for many years and the last time I used the place regularly it was always busy. Today's visit was very different with a few cars on the bottom level but almost completely empty levels above. The reason for this isn't hard to fathom. As will be the case for high streets all across the country, the rise in internet shopping and retail parks located on the outskirts of towns has led to a significant decline in more traditional retail outlets and, more or less, the death of the high street as a shopping experience. The extra today is a copy of a 35mm slide that was taken on an early morning visit to the same car park around 35 year ago, as the rising sun provided some interesting colour and texture contrasts within the concrete structure.
