Walking in Saltaire!
Late afternoon we headed to Saltaire to look at the Advent windows but not before going on an errand to Tesco in Bradford.
We don’t have a very convenient Tesco so rarely go unless we are in Skipton, they do have a good ‘’freefrom’ range and Grace wanted to know if we could get some GF cereals that the girls like. Yes they had them but we had to reach the shelves across people queuing in the aisles for the checkouts. Staff were handing out sweets to the people waiting! As a bonus I got the GF Christmas tree biscuits I couldn't get in Skipton and as we could use the ‘basket only’ tills we didn’t have to wait too long.
It was still a bit light when we arrived in Saltaire so some weren’t lit but we got around a good number of the windows. I like the way the lovely old windows frame the pictures which as you can see can’t be seen here! Because of cars parked in front of the houses (some of the terrace houses are right onto the street) I had to squeeze between the car and the window to take this so it’s very close up. Despite that I really like this most appropriate statement and have always loved The Snowman.
There were lots more of course so I will do a Flickr album.
( The lovely one Wilsden Walker posted wasn’t visible when we went to the appropriate house, a combination of being too light and steamed up window)
Very windy and quite cold but it was bright fir most of the day which is probably why it wasn’t quite dark enough at the start of our walk.
We awoke to a sprinkling of snow this morning and then a horrible down pour when it was so dark I had to turn the lights to do my ironing.
It was fine thankfully by the time we walked up to church as we thought we might have to cancel our planned outing this afternoon as well as take the car to church, almost unheard of!
You may have seen the selection of cards NannaK posted earlier this week from previous years’ Saltaire Advent windows. The extra window is my Christmas card to her, with love xx
Since getting back Chris has just finished cooking the ham, it smells wonderful and we’ll be having some soon for tea!
