Desperately seeking

2nd Place!

Tonight was the Carol Service. The 5 weeks of practicing paid off and most people thought it sounded fantastic. It was a typical 9 readings and carols format. We did Coventry Carol as an unaccompanied "choir only" and the leader and her hubby did O Holy Night as a thrilling duet - sounds I have never heard in our church  - even more powerful than Wednesday's practice of it! Thank goodness the glass windows stayed intact.

We have an enormous church and it was fuller than I have ever seen it apart from funerals.

It was nice to have our local MP come from the south of the county to join us and do one of the reading. Boundary reorganisation his put us into his constituency for the first time and he has made frequent visits to our village.

Our local Lib/Dem councillor was also in attendance and did the judging of the trees. I had seen the certificates of entry but had not seen any winning entries. After the service she announce that the school had been given 1st place for its design and thoughts on Peace, it deserved it. Second place, she said, went to The Social Club for describing all the year's activities.

The judge could tell a lot of work had gone into the winning entries and, although she has known me for years, she had no way of knowing my involvement with this project. The other committee members there were so pleased!

In Extras I have shown an example of the 3-sided baubles I printed, about 20 in all. The 3rd side shows the date, my name and the talk title: Hedgehogs.

What a night!
