A Bosch Nativity

As it's Christmas Eve, I hope I shall be forgiven a back blip from our trip to Petworth House on 4 December where this painting, The Adoration of the Magi, by Hieronymous Bosch, is part of the collection. Some of Bosch's work would not look out of place in a horror or science fiction setting but he seemed to have tempered his fantastical imagery in this work. Bosch lived, in Holland, from 1450 to 1516 and was really unique in the visions he conjured up. Even in this painting there is some striking symbolism.
