Living my dream

"I'll just lie here...

...outside the truck door until you decide it's time to go for a walk."

"Okay Bean. Message received."

We had a lovey walk. I plodded. She ran and ran and ran. Nose down. Tail up. There were no hares, rabbits or cats that I could see, but she was definitely on the trail of them. Now she is sleeping off her exertions, curled up on MY armchair under Best Blanket Ever.

In G's garden this morning one of my tasks was to pick raspberries and strawberries. Now at home one of my tasks it to pick my own. It is that time of year.

And the goosegogs have started to ripen as well. See the extra. I have a huge bowl filled to the brim with rosy beauties (dessert goosegogs). They will be transformed into crumbles later on - some for the freezer and some to go more or less immediately into my tummy. I do love crumbles.

You may remember my cunning plan to reduce the volume of raspberries this summer: I cut down an entire row of canes and I am therefore only harvesting fruit from one row, instead of two. Therefore - I surmised - I will have half the amount of fruit.

WRONG!

So far I have harvested more fruit than this time last year. More by about 30%. I assume the increased light reaching the single row, plus the enhanced access for pollinators, means that I will end up with quite a few more raspberries than I expected.

And so much for the story that raspberries only grow on last year's new canes. There are fruit developing on the brand new growth on the row I cut to the ground.

It looks like my cleverness has been completely thwarted.
