Very high up!!
We haven't been on an adventure for a while because Ann has been working a lot. (And she's going to be working for the next 5 days. Boohoo). She had all of today off, so we decided to go for a walk at Lands End. Ann has a 'locals pass' for Lands End which means that she can park for free and as there's lots of walks we can do from there, she decided that we'd better start making use of it.
The plan was to walk to Sennen Cove and back, but after we'd parked, Ann decided that we'd walk in the other direction because I've never been that way before. The walk going towards Porthcurno is quite high up and if you're interested in rock formations (which Ann isn't really) there's some interesting ones.
Anyway, all was going well until I got to this very high up point. Just so that you are all aware............... Ann is a very responsible Collie dog owner so if there had been a sheer drop from this rock she would have put me back on my lead. There wasn't a sheer drop below this rock! Below this rock there was grass and more rocks which formed the perfect way for a Collie like me to get down to the sea. Soooooooo............... after I'd stood on the rock sniffing the air (and getting the scent of bunnies), I decided I would have a little run down to the sea to see if I could find any.
It didn't take long for me to disappear out of sight. Ann was furious because she thought I was more obedient than that?! I could hear her shouting me but I had absolutely no intention of coming back until I'd checked everything out. To be honest, Ann wasn't too worried about losing me because she knew I'd have to come back the way I'd gone down, because there was very steep cliff on either side and she knew that I wouldn't be able to climb back up that way.
Ann decided that she would just stand on the rock and wait for me to come back. However, some people who were walking behind us, were very concerned for me (&Ann). They'd been on a higher up part of the path so said to Ann, 'Are you alright? He's almost down at the sea.' HE? They were obviously too far away to see that I am a gorgeous little girl Collie. And then one of them proceeded to scramble down rocks to see if they could see me. Ann assured them she was fine and that I was just a very disobedient, naughty little Collie who would come back when she was ready. Which I did!!! …........And this whole episode probably lasted less than 3 mins?
Ann says it's always a worry though when one's dog is out of sight.
Moving swiftly on....................... We walked as far as Nanjizal Beach and then headed up a very steep set of steps to walk up the valley and then across the fields back to Lands End.
It was a lovely walk, but it took us an hour and a half to walk 3.3 miles. Obviously if I'd been doing the walk by myself I could have done it in half the time. My human is getting old. The coast path was very rocky in places, it was very muddy in places and walking up very steep steps (we should have counted them) was exhausting.
Between 2010-2012 Ann walked the whole 630 miles of the 'SWCP' with 'MollyCollie', averaging about 10-11 miles per walk. And now she's totally wiped out after walking 3 miles, half of which were on the flat through fields??!!!
Mmmmmmmm....................... a few 'New Year Resolutions' are going to have to be made for 2025. Lol!!
