Imagine the dusting!
Trip up to London for the weekend. We had so many presents and bits of food to transport that we got a car (with a very talkative driver) all the way to The Zetter Hotel in Clerkenwell, a lovely part of London that often gets a bit overlooked. Our room is also lovely, the hotel is lovely! Very small and boutique. We set out to go to a noodle bar that V had located for lunch only to find it was shut for refurbishment over the Christmas period. So we ate a simple lunch at Grangers who made the best Kombucha.
After lunch we walked down to the John Soane Museum in Lincoln’s Inn, where I hadn’t been for years. The staff were a bit fussed because the museum was so busy and they couldn’t admit anyone after 4.30pm. Luckily we got in. It’s an amazing place, still just as Sir John Soane, the architect, left it when he died in 1837, well I assume with the addition of electricity. It is STUFFED with treasures, it’s hard to say where any living might have happened. Nothing is labeled, you just wander round and soak it up. There are guided tours but we failed to get on one of them. When I asked when I could see the Drawing Office I was told 2.40pm on a Thursday.
Walked back to the hotel for a cup of tea and rest and then had dinner locally in Moro, a long loved Spanish restaurant run by two Brits. Fabulous food.
