Today's the day ....................... to make friends

I went with Tim and Dominic today, to another beach just along the coast, to see for myself what this metal-detecting was all about.  

Apart from the fact that it was just nice to be out in the fresh air, not to mention on a beach - I was actually quite impressed with what the detector could detect.  Every time there was a strong bleep, there was something metal buried in the sand.  Most of the time, it was a rusty nail or a bit of wire - but it was quite encouraging to think that if there were to be a ring or a brooch, it would pick it up.

And meanwhile, it has to be the most social activity you can do on a beach.  Small boys (and big ones!) are drawn to it, like metal to a magnet and they all want to know what's been found.  And if they are allowed a bit of a go with it, they are more than happy .....................!
