A morning out on the tiles

After a recommendation from my friend Alice, I cycled deep into town this morning to visit a shop for a birthday present for my brother.  I could have spent twice as long there because everything was amazing.  It's not a part of town I often go to, mainly on account of it being miles and miles.  The getting there is fine, it's the getting back!  I did think about jumping on the Borders bus but decided I needed the exercise.

After shopping I remembered the little mosaics that are scattered around the Old Town and New Town, and I was sort of in the vicinity so I went hunting.  The bottom one in the pic I found first, exactly where predicted (even though I wandered straight past it twice!) and it's called "Personification of Spring".  It's neatly done but I think the cigarette spoils it.  A short ride away, up near Calton Hill, is the top one which is called "Hand & Flower".  Both are much the same size as the first one I blipped: just a few inches across.

And so all mosaicked out I rode homewards.  Halfway there, a familiar voice called out, and it was my manager from 20-odd years ago.  We had a good catch up while she waited for a bus.  Once home, a late lunch, a huge cup of tea and a hot shower were all in order.
