Greenfield Valley Parkrun and door crisis
SATURDAY
It's been difficult to keep track of the days this week. Our neighbour reminded me to put the bins out on Thursday and when I woke up at 7:25 am today, I had a sudden realisation: it’s Parkrun day!
I quickly gathered myself and headed over to Greenfield Valley. Thankfully, the fog had cleared, making for an easier journey. However, a blanket of mist still hung over the Dee Estuary, with the buildings of Liverpool peeking out above the mist in the far distance.
I tackled route (which includes a relentless 100m climb to the finish) with my sort of average time for this course of 28:43. Along the way, I bumped into Molly, a runner from West Yorkshire, who finished just ahead of me. It was nice to briefly catch up.
This afternoon we took Harriet to The Corner Cafe in Caerwys for lunch before she headed off on the next leg of her journey — to Leeds. Not without a bit of a hiccup on my end though.
Yesterday, following the Christmas power cut, the Scottish Power engineers had warned me that there might be a power outage today, so I’d taken precautionary measures. I disconnected the garage door mechanism from the electric opener to ensure Harriet’s car wouldn’t get stuck inside. But I hadn't thought it through properly as the mechanism re-engaged itself in the wrong position, leaving the door jammed shut with two cars inside and no other way to get in.
A big thanks to two kind neighbours who came to the rescue and saved the day with a bit of thinking and an emergency key!
Harriet has now arrived safely in Leeds, hopefully not too late.
