Cistern

Long drawn our, frustrating saga with our two WC cisterns. The are both 1970s built-in types where access to the internal works is very restricted as they are behind tiles. The moving parts do very occasionally need some maintenance especially in high limescale areas like ours. The sealing washers may need cleaning or replacement when water starts to drip when not being flushed.

This was the case with both of ours. I was able to replace/fix one but the other one seemed to get worse. I ordered a complete new gubbins set online, but that didn't help. Finally had to give in and call local plumbing company.

They were able to extract a plastic cap from some type of bottle that had got trapped in the works. Seems that the cap possibly from a limescale removal bottle had been happily sitting in the cistern for decades and my work had dislodged it.

So all put together but then we noticed there was a leak at the WC. Again call out, WC gasket checked and recounted but problem continued. Another call out. Finally turned out the wall and the cellar below had got so wet that the moisture was simply sweating its way out onto the tiles. Had to get a humidifier working 24/7 for weeks!
