Orientated to the New Year

West Cumberland Orienteering Club holds its annual New Year Event at Mawbray Dunes. It's a really nice place to jog about in, with soft turf and lots of hidden hummocks to whiz up and down. And there's a stunning view of Scotland, with cloudscape, and the sea with rows of rolling waves, so there's a background roar of water crashing on pebbles along the length of the run. The controls are mixed, some cunningly hidden and some in full view. There's such a feeling of elation when you find one exactly where you thought it would be! I missed 2 of the 21 controls on the short course but gained 2 from the long one - which doesn't count for the score - but who cares?
