The Subtle Knife

… has been up to its old tricks again…
There’s a more typical blip as an extra to bring in the new year with old ‘habits’ … nippy dippy in Ullswater. I’m pretty sure I was a monk in one of those other universes.

Like an old dog with a bone I was determined to try and find plants in flower for the BSBI new year plant hunt before it ends and went up to Eycott, ever hopeful. I even took my hand lens to look professional and tried to remember which way round to use it. I peered down from the boardwalk into the bog and narrowly avoided tipping in head first. I waded through mud, conversed with the Belties and was wind blown on the volcanic craggy tops looking across to the snow showers shrouding the fell tops. In good Beckett style, I tried, I failed, tried again and failed better … in the end I did spectacularly well, even better than at Powfoot the day before yesterday’s wash out, and I was in danger of nul points until I found a solitary grass in flower. It’s almost too embarrassing to record but I womanfully have.

Here we go, all best wishes for 2025 blip chums x
