January
Not my favourite month but even on this freezing morning there is joy to be found in the garden. I could see from the house that the yellow Witch Hazel (Hamamelis) had sprouted enough for the bush to be showing some colour. The flowers still have some opening to do but they are nice to see. I was pleasantly surprised to see tiny signs of red buds on our second Witch Hazel. I’m always pleased to see signs of life as we have lost a red one before and it was expensive to replace.
I didn't do the early walk. I hadn’t set my alarm as it was a later start and I’m always awake anyway. My body must have been telling something as I was awoken when Chris brought me a cuppa at 7.20am, our usual start time. I could have jumped up and rushed out but decided to enjoy my tea in bed and read my book.
When I went to take a closer look at the Witch Hazels on the top lawn I passed the greenhouse, the windows showing pretty frost patterns despite Chrus putting the heater in last night. Extra
