The Pie

Hogmanay was late, messy, but a lot of fun. The girl and her beautiful left after 2.30pm when he had just woken.

The Pie was being served at my sister's house. Cal and his mum were joining us. This was Cal's first taste of this Scottish ritual. This is what a baby's steak pie looks like. It's fair to say he is a fan.

Last year, I came to the awful conclusion that I can no longer digest beef. It's no bad thing, except when it comes to The Pie. I craved those big hearty flavours, the stodge of pastry, and mash to soak up the excess.

I had prepared a mushroom pie, using oxo and marmite for added flavour. I topped it with puff pastry. I was suitably impressed by how good it tasted. I almost didn't miss the beef.....almost. I reminded myself that there would be no discomfort and no consequences, and that helped me feel better.

It's still pie day, just a different Pie. No worries, Cal ate my share.
