Icy Stare
A pair of jackdaws joined the pigeons in the frosty front garden this morning and I shot them through the window. Unlike their rook and crow relatives, they have light-coloured eyes. They do not excavate their nests but use existing holes in trees etc. Consequently they fight over ownership of good sites. It has been discovered that their staring eyes deter others from trying to take their positions. It has also been demonstrated that these birds react to human eye movements.
